Detection of Packet Forwarding Misbehavior in Wireless Network

چکیده
Wireless networks are susceptible to having their effective operation compromised by a variety of security attacks. Nodes may misbehave either because they are malicious and deliberately wish to disrupt the network, or because they are selfish and wish to conserve their own limited resources such as power, or for other reasons. The wireless nature and inherent features of mobile ad hoc networks makes them vulnerable to a wide variety of attacks by misbehaving nodes. Such attacks range from passive eavesdropping, where a node tries to obtain unauthorized access to data destined for another node, to active interference where malicious nodes hinder network performance by not obeying globally acceptable rules. For instance, a node can behave maliciously by not forwarding packets on behalf of other peer nodes. This paper presents a mechanism that enables the detection of nodes that exhibit packet forwarding misbehavior.

A New Intrusion Detection System to deal with Black Hole Attacks in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
By extending wireless networks and because of their different nature, some attacks appear in these networks which did not exist in wired networks. Security is a serious challenge for actual implementation in wireless networks. Due to lack of the fixed infrastructure and also because of security holes in routing protocols in mobile ad hoc networks, these networks are not protected against attack...
متن کاملUnauthenticated event detection in wireless sensor networks using sensors co-coverage
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) offer inherent packet redundancy since each point within the network area is covered by more than one sensor node. This phenomenon, which is known as sensors co-coverage, is used in this paper to detect unauthenticated events. Unauthenticated event broadcasting in a WSN imposes network congestion, worsens the packet loss rate, and increases the network energy con...

Mobile Ad Hoc networks (MANETs) are susceptible to having their effective operation compromised by a variety of security attacks. For example, misbehaving nodes can cause general network disruption by not forwarding packets on behalf of other nodes in the network. Nodes may misbehave either because they are malicious and deliberately wish to disrupt the network, or because they are selfish and ...
متن کامل(yip-07) Economic Models for End-to-end Decision Making in an Ad Hoc Network Environment
In a distributed wireless system, such as an ad hoc network, multiple nodes behave cooperatively towards a common goal. For doing so, they make decisions independently and cooperatively such that they benefit the mission of the network. Though such assumptions on cooperation are desirable (e.g., controlling the transmit power level, reducing interference for each other, revealing private inform...
متن کاملMitigating Selfish Behavior in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks: A Survey
Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) is a collection of mobile nodes forming the network dynamically for exchange of information using the multi-hop wireless communications without the need of any pre-existing infrastructure. The mobile nodes act as hosts as well as router to establish communication among nodes in the network. To achieve high throughput nodes are expected to cooperate with each othe...
